Vivian converted to Scientology and moved to Los Angeles in 1999.
She refused to answer her father’s many letters and phone calls to her.  When her sister Anya died in 2009 she did not even bother to go to the funeral.  Stanley wrote her a heart breaking 40-page letter begging her to come see him.  She ignored it and him.

Stanley died on March 9^th 1999 without seeing or hearing from his favorite daughter.
Apparently she was much closer to her Scientology buddies than she was to her family.  Friends of Stanley have told me that he died of a broken heart.

There is a scene in The Shining where Danny sees two sisters who have been brutally murdered.

I believe that scene is in the film because Stanley was told that this is what would happen to his two daughters, Vivian and Anya, if he ever told the truth.  That is why he never told Vivian.  He loved her and wanted no harm to come to her.
